A Fingerlakes Elopement – Keuka Springs Winery

When couples dream of a Finger Lakes elopement, they often picture rolling vineyards, peaceful lake views, intimate moments, and breathtaking sunsets over the water. Christina and Steven’s wedding day at a unique wine barrel-shaped Airbnb and Keuka Springs Winery was all of that and more.

Their day was proof that even a rainy forecast can’t overshadow a love story years in the making.

With only the bride’s mother and their sweet three-year-old son, Giovanni, present, this intimate celebration perfectly captured what makes a Finger Lakes elopement wedding so special. Meaningful moments, beautiful scenery, and the freedom to focus entirely on what matters most.

As a Finger Lakes elopement photographer, these are the kinds of wedding days I absolutely love documenting.

Why the Finger Lakes is One of the Best Places to Elope in New York

The Finger Lakes region of New York has become one of the most sought-after destinations for couples planning an intimate wedding or elopement. With dozens of wineries, charming Airbnbs, stunning lakes, waterfalls, and scenic overlooks, it’s easy to see why couples from all over the Northeast choose this area for their wedding day.

Whether you’re planning a:

  • Finger Lakes winery wedding
  • Keuka Lake elopement
  • Seneca Lake wedding
  • Airbnb wedding in the Finger Lakes
  • Micro wedding in Upstate New York
  • Intimate vineyard wedding

the region offers endless possibilities.

Unlike traditional wedding venues, many Finger Lakes elopements allow couples to create a day that feels completely their own.

Starting the Day at a Wine Barrel Airbnb

One of the most unique parts of Christina and Steven’s wedding day was their Airbnb.

Nestled among the vineyards, the property features a whimsical wine barrel-shaped structure that felt perfectly at home in wine country. It provided a cozy and private setting for the couple to prepare for their ceremony while also serving as a beautiful backdrop for portraits.

For couples searching for unique Airbnb wedding locations in the Finger Lakes, this is exactly the kind of hidden gem that makes an elopement feel personal and unforgettable.

Embracing a Rainy Wedding Day in the Finger Lakes

One thing I always tell couples is this:

Rain is not a bad thing on your wedding day. In fact, someone once told me that rain is symbolic of a stronger marriage. Think of it in terms of “tying the knot”. When a knot becomes wet, it’s almost impossible to untangle. It makes the knot stronger. Rain on your wedding day is a good omen because it means that your marriage is almost impossible to untangle. It makes your marriage stronger.

We did get lucky, however. The rain let up in time for our trek to Keuka Springs Winery where we took bride and groom photos. In fact, the sun came out to give us an epic sunset.

Some of the most beautiful weddings I’ve photographed in the Finger Lakes have happened during less-than-perfect weather.

The clouds create soft, flattering light. The vineyards become richer in color. The lakes take on a dramatic appearance. And perhaps most importantly, couples tend to focus more on each other than on the timeline.

Christina and Steven embraced every moment.

For couples considering a Finger Lakes elopement in spring, summer, or fall, flexibility is key. The weather can change quickly, but often those changing conditions create some of the most stunning photographs.

Keuka Springs Winery is a GORGEOUS spot for wedding photos!

Keuka Springs Winery is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful winery wedding locations in the Finger Lakes.

Located overlooking Keuka Lake, the winery offers sweeping vineyard views and a peaceful atmosphere that feels tailor-made for intimate weddings.

Christina and Steven had received special permission to use the property after hours so we had the vineyard all to ourselves. It was so incredibly peaceful.

These pictures are a testament as to why so many couples are choosing micro weddings and elopements in the Finger Lakes over larger traditional weddings. The experience becomes less about entertaining guests and more about creating memories.

Why Winery Elopements are Perfect for Finger Lakes Couples

The Finger Lakes is home to more than 100 wineries, making it one of the premier wine regions in the United States.

For couples looking for a romantic wedding experience, wineries offer:

  • Scenic vineyard views
  • Beautiful ceremony locations
  • Exceptional food and wine
  • Intimate atmospheres
  • Incredible sunset opportunities
  • Stunning portrait locations

A Finger Lakes winery elopement combines elegance with simplicity.

Couples can enjoy all the beauty of a destination wedding without traveling across the country.

Whether you’re considering a wedding at Keuka Lake, Seneca Lake, Cayuga Lake, or Canandaigua Lake, winery venues offer some of the most picturesque settings in New York State.

The Sunset We Almost Didn’t Get

As the afternoon continued, the skies slowly began to change.

The rain clouds that had lingered throughout the day started to break apart.

Small patches of sunlight appeared.

Then, just before sunset, something magical happened.

The sky exploded with warm golden light.

The vineyards glowed.

The lake reflected the colors of the setting sun.

Everything that had felt gray and moody throughout the day transformed into the kind of sunset photographers dream about.

We stepped into the vineyard for one final portrait session, and the results were absolutely worth the wait.

The combination of dramatic post-rain skies, vineyard views, and golden sunlight created some of my favorite images to date.

It’s moments like these that remind couples why trusting the process is so important.

The weather may not always go according to plan, but sometimes the best moments happen when you least expect them.

Planning Your Own Finger Lakes Elopement
